Morgan Joins DC Chamber Chairman’s Club & Begins Term as

The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its newest member of the 2011 Chairman’s Club: Steve Morgan, Financial Advisor at United Community Advisory Services.  Morgan is also the new Chairman of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

After completion of his Masters Degree in Economics at the University of Georgia in 1992, Steve worked for several years in the peanut business consulting with the likes of JIF and Planters.  In 1998, Steve made a career change and went to work for Salomon Smith Barney in Albany, Georgia as a Financial Advisor where he was named “Class Speaker” by his class of 102 peers and was honored as a member of the “Blue Chip Counsel” for top producers.  Steve and his family moved to Douglasville in 2002 from Thomasville to pursue the challenge of implementing the Financial Services platform for United Community Advisory Services, a subsidiary of United Community Bank where he is currently employed.

Steve has been involved with the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce since 2004.  He served as a diplomat before joining the Board of Directors in 2006 and has since served as Treasurer in 2009 and Chair Elect in 2010.  He has led several committees, served as the Chamber representative on the Douglasville Downtown Master Plan committee and was a member of the Leadership Douglas Class of 2009.  When asked about his new role as Chairman, Steve commented, “I am very excited to be the Chairman of the Board for 2011.  When I think back to those that have served in that capacity while I have been on the Board or when I was a Diplomat, and the companies they represented, it is really an impressive list of men and women. So when I say that I am honored to have been selected to follow in their footsteps, I absolutely mean it.  They helped lay the groundwork for a great Chamber of Commerce, with wonderful members and a top-notch staff, and I am very excited to see that we serve our membership even better in 2011.”

The Chairman’s Club represents businesses and individuals who have chosen to go the extra mile in their support for the Chamber and its mission; they do so because they believe that the voice of business must be heard. They are also leaders who invest time and money toward the job creation, quality of life, workforce development and marketing goals of the community. These top decision-makers develop valuable relationships among key business and political leaders and lend expertise on issues critical to their corporate goals and to the community’s growth and development.  According to Morgan, “Chairmans Club is very important because it gives me the opportunity to learn from some of the truly elite business men and women in this area.  When you have the opportunity to spend quality time with these types of leaders and decision makers, what one can learn is very unique and invaluable.  From communication skills to business savvy, Chairman’s Club provides that opportunity.  It also provides a great way to network and build long-term, business relationships with the CEOs and Presidents of many of the leading businesses in our community.  Some of those relationships will be carried a long, long time and as my dad always reminded me growing up – “It’s who you know, and not always what you know.”

Other members of the 2011 Chairman’s Club are Ameriprise Financial-Patti Puckett, AT&T, Cannongate Golf Clubs, City of Douglasville, Community & Southern Bank, Douglas County Government, Douglas County School Board, Entertainment Design Group, Georgia Power, GreyStone Power, Kaiser Permanente, Mercer University, Metro Bank, WellStar Douglas Hospital, United Community Bank and West Georgia Technical College.
